His breakthrough came with the off-Broadway sensation, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, where he starred as Hedwig and co-wrote alongside composer Stephen Trask. This rock musical not only enjoyed a long off-Broadway run but also transitioned into a Golden Globe-nominated film in 2001. Transitioning from stage to screen, Mitchell continued to challenge norms with his step into filmmaking. His directorial ventures have extended to music videos, while his artistic journey reflects a commitment to pushing boundaries and exploring the complexities of human experience, both on stage and screen.
