Kronos Quartet performing live on stage for their "Five Decades" tour

A new era for Kronos Quartet

Renowned for challenging traditional Western European conventions and their diverse musical repertoire the San Francisco-based Kronos Quartet has left an indelible mark on the string quartet genre. Founded by David Harrington (violin) and joined by John Sherba (violin), Hank Dutt (viola) and Paul Wiancko (cello), Kronos Quartet has spent the last five decades revolutionizing classical music.

With thousands of performances worldwide and over seventy recordings to their name, Kronos Quartet has collaborated with esteemed composers and performers and garnered three Grammy Awards, the Polar Music Prize, Avery Fisher Prize and Edison Klassiek Oeuvre Prize throughout their career. Their commitment to innovation extends beyond performance; through the Kronos Performing Arts Association, they have commissioned over 1,100 works and arrangements, including the groundbreaking Fifty for the Future educational repertoire.

To celebrate their remarkable fifty-year journey, Kronos Quartet presents Five Decades, a year-long concert series spanning from July 2023 to June 2024, with a special performance at Royce Hall on April 28. This celebration also marks the retirement of longtime members John Sherba and Hank Dutt, who have been integral to the group's sound since joining in 1978 and 1977 respectively. Their departure signals the end of an era, but their contributions will resonate in Kronos's legacy.

Following the Five Decades tour, Kronos Quartet will welcome new members violinist Gabriela Díaz and violist Ayane Kozasa, who will join Harrington and Wiancko, ensuring the continuation of Kronos's pioneering spirit.

Don't miss your last opportunity to witness John Sherba and Hank Dutt perform with Kronos Quartet, as they bid farewell to an extraordinary chapter in classical music history.
