“[Kyle Abraham’s] best work combines truth and beauty by making a message about race metamorphose, again and again, into symbol.” —The New Yorker

Born into hip-hop culture in the late 1970s and grounded in an artistic upbringing in classical cello, piano and the visual arts, choreographer Kyle Abraham delves into identity through personal history. In collaboration with the members of Abraham.In.Motion, he entwines a sensual and provocative vocabulary with a strong emphasis on sound, behavior and all things visual in an effort to create an avenue for personal investigation that can be explored on stage. Dearest Home is a departure from the themes of injustice prevalent in Abraham’s previous work. An interactive dance work developed over multiple years, it focuses on “Love, Longing and Loss.” Built primarily on solos and duets generated from conversations with people from a variety of age groups and sub- cultures, Dearest Home interweaves movement, in its most vulnerable and intimate state, with cross-cultural expression and community action to reveal how differently we experience and talk about love and its absence.
