“[Kyle Abraham’s] best work combines truth and beauty by making a message about race metamorphose, again and again, into symbol.” —The New Yorker
Born into hip-hop culture in the late 1970s and grounded in an artistic upbringing in classical cello, piano and the visual arts, choreographer Kyle Abraham delves into identity through personal history. In collaboration with the members of Abraham.In.Motion, he entwines a provocative dance vocabulary with a strong emphasis on sound, behavior and all things visual in an effort to create an avenue for personal investigation that can be explored on stage. An interactive dance work developed over multiple years, it focuses on “Love, Longing and Loss.”
At this special behind-the-scenes presentation for teen audiences, the company will share excerpts of the piece in an open-rehearsal format and take questions from attendees.
