Although trained as a classical and jazz musician, Tigran Hamasyan draws on a wide range of influences including Armenian folk music, rock and more. In the past decade, with the release of four critically acclaimed albums and an unceasing touring schedule, Tigran has built up a dedicated international following, as well as accolades from the likes of Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and Brad Mehldau.
With his ECM Records debut Luys i Luso, fifteen centuries of Armenian sacred music are sublimated into one dreamlike sequence of free-floating hymns, cantos and other liturgical forms in these gorgeous arrangements by the pianist and composer Tigran Hamasyan. His own delicate, jazz-tinged piano improvisations weave in and out of the choral tapestry, adding a contemporary, personal voice to this entrancing ancient music.
