Alfredo Rodriguez and Pedrito Martinez
School Matinee Performance
Grades 6-12
Discover the explosive rhythms and world-class musicianship of Grammy-nominated Alfredo Rodriguez and Pedrito Martinez. What begins as a duo of piano, percussion and voice quickly transforms into a high-octane performance, full of energy, improvisation and irresistible grooves.
Rodriguez, a classically trained piano virtuoso discovered by Quincy Jones, blends the precision of European composers with the fire of Cuban jazz. Martinez, a master percussionist and vocalist rooted in Afro-Cuban folklore. Together, they create a deeply rooted yet wildly adventurous sound, moving effortlessly from traditional Cuban songs to bold original compositions and unexpected favorites.
Like all DFS programs, this hour-long student matinee performance is free to any Los Angeles area public school, though we do ask that schools make their own transportation arrangements. If that means you might not be able to attend, let us know. We may be able to help. Our Perloff Memorial Bus Fund provides support for bus transportation.
We often have more demand than we can accommodate; requests are filled on a first-come basis. Contact us at dfs@cap.ucla.edu for more information.
