Still/Here
School Matinee Performance
Grades 7-12
Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company remounts a timeless piece, celebrating its ability to evoke a spirit of survival. Created during the AIDS epidemic, Still/Here broke boundaries and exemplified a uniquely American form of dance theater.
At the heart of Still/Here are the “Survival Workshops: Talking and Moving about Life and Death.” These workshops were conducted across the country with people living with life-threatening illnesses. Their words, gestures and images inform the piece.
This special matinee will feature excerpts from the work, and a Q&A with company members. Don’t miss the chance for your young dancers to experience this iconic work.
Like all DFS programs, this hour-long student matinee performance is free to any Los Angeles area public school, though we do ask that schools make their own transportation arrangements. If that means you might not be able to attend, let us know. We may be able to help. Our Perloff Memorial Bus Fund provides support for bus transportation.
We often have more demand than we can accommodate; requests are filled on a first-come basis. Contact us at dfs@cap.ucla.edu for more information.
