Quetzal

School Matinee Performance
Grades 4-8

Called “one of LA’s most important bands,” by the Los Angeles Times, Grammy Award winning ensemble Quetzal forges a distinctive, multi-ethnic sound that blends Mexican, Afro-Cuban, rock, and jazz influences, with songs that tell musical stories rooted in the complex cultural currents of life in the barrio.

The artists and scholars that make up Quetzal are known as leaders and innovators of Chicano music, and a vital cross-border link between artistic and activist communities in both Mexico and California.

Quetzal has graced stages across the US, Canada, Asia and Mexico for over 25 years, and continues to model how music, culture, and social activism come together on and off the stage. They are an enduring and prominent force, channeling the East L.A. soundscape.

Like all DFS programs, this hour-long student matinee performance is free to any Los Angeles area public school, though we do ask that schools make their own transportation arrangements.  If that means you might not be able to attend, let us know.  We may be able to help.  Our Perloff Memorial Bus Fund provides support for bus transportation. We often have more demand that we can accommodate; requests are filled on a first-come basis. Contact us at dfs@cap.ucla.edu for more information.
