Varijashree Venugopal

School Matinee Performance
Grades 6-12

Bangalore-based Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Varijashree Venugopal, was widely recognised as a child prodigy, performing concerts at the age of four. Today, she is a pioneering artist applying the techniques, fundamentals, and the sound and soul of Indian singing to global music.

Varijashree brings her unique capabilities of using her voice as an instrument, her improvised singing, to blend various music cultures with traditional Indian techniques. She is also a flautist, composer and music educator.

In this live performance of her original piece, Vari, traditional South Indian sounds of Indian rhythm and melody blend with synth soundscapes and bass lines, creating a meaningful mix of tradition and experimentation.

Like all DFS programs, this hour-long student matinee performance is free to any Los Angeles area public school, though we do ask that schools make their own transportation arrangements.  If that means you might not be able to attend, let us know.  We may be able to help.  Our Perloff Memorial Bus Fund provides support for bus transportation.

We often have more demand than we can accommodate; requests are filled on a first-come basis. Contact us at dfs@cap.ucla.edu for more information.
