In Things Hidden Since the Foundation of the World, The Javaad Alipoor Company joins forces with the National Theatre of Parramatta to tell the story of Fereydoun Farrokhzad, the meteoric Iranian popstar whose life was violently ended in a still-unsolved murder.

This multimedia production is part play, part documentary, part podcast, all scored by live music in a technicolor exploration of Farrokhzad’s story. Looking at how dissidents from the Global South are still targeted in the West today and the way the tangle of information available online in a post-colonial world reveals the limits of the search engine.

• Artist’s bookshelf and pop-up library: Check out the multimedia stations in The Nimoy lobby spaces where you can dig deeper into the cultural, social and political movements the performance explores. Listen to music, view archival videos, mingle, share ideas, or just read and enjoy.

• Join us for a live DJ set, spinning the classics from the golden age of psychedelic, garage rock and funk from the 1960s and 1970s Iranian music scene. Iranian-American artist and DJ Parisa Parnian, creator of Aziz Amor, invites attendees to contribute song requests from pre-revolutionary Iran and post-revolutionary Tehrangeles. These selections will be curated into a live DJ set, blending heritage, music, and visual art to evoke the cultural richness central to Things Hidden Since the Foundation of the World.
