The U.S. premiere of Enno Poppe's   tribute to radio and public broadcast, performed by Piano Spheres.

“virtuosically polyphonic” – Die Zeit

Join us for the U.S. premiere of Enno Poppe's "Rundfunk" performed by Piano Spheres. Poppe stands among the most important composers in Germany today and created “Rundfunk” (“Broadcast”) for nine synthesizers as a loving tribute to the music studios of the public broadcasting services. “Rundfunk” aims to examine the possibilities and requirements of the era of public broadcasting services, just as the music studios of the time did.

In creating “Rundfunk,” Poppe avoided the use of historic instruments and instead imbued the piece with sounds of the 60s and 70s: “FM synthesis, Minimoog, Piganino.” Poppe uses computer-generated reproductions rather than original instruments. The result is an electronic orchestra, a tribute to a bygone era made possible by new technologies.
