A Defense of the Less Good Idea

UCLA student on sale: Sep 1, 2024

The Centre is a long-term test of a strategy for making art and making meaning. Is it a viable way of finding understanding, of constructing meaning, or simply a way of making art?William Kentridge, A Defence of the Less Good Idea.

The Centre for the Less Good Idea travels from Johannesburg, South Africa to Southern California for A Defense of the Less Good Idea, a series of short form works exploring the theatrical epic.

The three short form works — Mnquma, Commission Continua and Umthandazo — are preceded by a performance-based lecture by William Kentridge, a co-founder (with Bronwyn Lace) of the Centre. The Centre for the Less Good Idea is a space committed to free-spirited experimentation and collaborative-art — an ethos they will bring to this lively and impactful evening.
