Just Like the World, a collaborative performance by Sō Percussion, Helado Negro and This Is the Kit (Kate Stables).
Just Like the World brings together Sō Percussion with two singular musical voices: Helado Negro, the bilingual electronic folk project of Roberto Lange, and This Is the Kit, the alt-folk project of singer, songwriter, banjoist and guitarist Kate Stables. Known for its adventurous collaborations, Sō Percussion builds songs from the ground up with each artist, creating new musical languages through rhythm, texture and shared invention.
With Helado Negro, Sō enters a sound world of English and Spanish lyrics, electronics, Latin-influenced grooves and layered percussion. With This Is the Kit, the ensemble brings post-minimalist patterns, rhythmic play and unexpected instrumental color to Stables’ warm, exploratory folk sensibility. Across the evening, marimbas, drums, shakers, steel pans, Moog synthesizer, toy piano, bowed percussion, banjo, guitar and voice combine in music that is intricate, intimate and joyfully unpredictable.
Together, these collaborations reveal Sō Percussion as both ensemble and band: a restless engine of rhythm and invention.
Sō Percussion will also present a free matinee performance for public school groups through Design for Sharing, our K-12 Arts Education Program.
