“One of the most forward-thinking contemporary composers in any genre” — Pitchfork

Gary, Indiana’s own Jlin (Jerrilynn Patton) electrifies The Nimoy for a set that showcases why she has quickly become one of the most distinctive composers in America and one of the most influential women in electronic music. Jlin’s thrilling, emotional and multidimensional compositions have garnered global acclaim, including a 2023 US Artist award and a 2023 Pulitzer Prize nomination.

A sought-after collaborator, Jlin has been commissioned by heavy-hitting artists such as Kronos Quartet, Third Coast Percussion, the Pathos Quartet, choreographers Wayne McGregor and Kyle Abraham, fashion designer Rick Owens and the visual artists Nick Cave and Kevin Beasley. Her latest release, Akoma (2024), solidifies her place as a force in the musical world, and features collaborations with Philip Glass, Bjork and Kronos Quartet.

Following the performance, The Industry will partner with Jlin for one of its Listening Party events  — a series that combines conversation and music as part of the organization’s mission to reimagine the orthodoxies of opera. The Industry brings together interdisciplinary visionaries to engage with opera as a living art form in dialogue with new perspectives, voices and moments in contemporary culture with a site-specific focus that challenges the traditional relationship between artists and audience.
