Live Night: Cruising Bodies, Spirits, and Machines

6 pm: Doors Open
6:30 pm: rafa esparza
7:30 pm: MUXX Collective
9 pm: Arca (DJ set)

Co-curated by CAP UCLA Executive and Artistic Director Edgar Miramontes and REDCAT Chief Curator and Deputy Director, Programs, Daniela Lieja Quintanar

Live Night is part of REDCAT's exhibition and program series, All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace, which brings together artists using artificial intelligence to build ancestral futures, and centers Indigenous, Brown, and Queer perspectives.

Interdisciplinary artist Nao Bustamante hosts the evening as Mistress of Ceremonies, which opens with /SLASH at 6:30 pm. /SLASH aggregates live sounds and movement in a deconstructive score produced by rafa esparza and Tim Reyes. Together they contend with modern building materials, demolishing processes and the evolution of the wheel as they have experienced it living in Los Angeles–known as the “car capital of the world”. While esparza breaks away from a concrete tractor tire, Reyes drums and builds a sonic landscape bringing viewers within a proximal range of wheeled journeys that build up and break down over time.

At 7:30 pm, performance collective MUXX presents IMPERIUM, a triptych of immersive multimedia experiences that explore the concept of power and its relationship with technology. Featuring DREAMCATCHER by Eyibra and Lukas Avendaño, HOLOMASTIGOT by Óldo Erréve, and REDES by Nnux, the collective uses live performance, immersive set design, artificial intelligence, video mapping, lasers, robotics, and digital art to invite reflection on how we submit to power, how we exercise it, and how we can transform it.

The evening culminates at 9 pm with a DJ set and installation by visionary Venezuelan artist Arca. Known for her innovative and experimental music, Arca will deliver a multisensory performance that blends electronic music, experimental melodies and evocative visuals.
